Linseed, poppy and safflower oil are the vegetable oils used to create oil colour; these drying and semi-drying oils give each colour its different drying rate, consistency and colour. Winsor & Newton Drying Oils, used in conjunction with oil colour, will modify the colours existing consistency, gloss and drying time. Using oils maintains the flexibility of paint films, particularly when working fat over lean, and prevents over-thinning, which can happen when using solvents.
Darker than refined Linseed Oil, Fast Drying Linseed Oil promotes the fastest drying rate of all the oils.
- Decreases the consistency and increases transparency & gloss of the oil paint.
- Add to other oils to accelerate their drying times
